Take steps to avoid heat exhaustion

Summer-like conditions smothered the area recently and more is bound to come. It’s a good time to review the symptoms of heat exhaustion and take steps to avoid it.

Signs of heat exhaustion include cool, moist, pale or flushed skin; heavy sweating; headache; nausea; dizziness; weakness; and exhaustion.

If you or another person start to develop these symptoms, move to a cooler place. Remove or loosen tight clothing and apply cool, wet cloths or towels to the skin. Remember to continue drinking plenty of fluids.

Blood donors needed throughout June

Three American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled in Londonderry and Derry this month.

The first is Tuesday, June 11, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Londonderry Lions Hall, 256 Mamoth Road.

That’s followed June 14 at St. Mark’s Church, 1 South Road in Londonderry. That drive also runs from 1 to 6 p.m.

Finally, on June 26, there will be a drive at Promises to Keep, 199 Rockingham Road in Derry from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All eligible and new blood donors are encouraged to give blood. Blood donors are needed every day to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

In June, all donors will receive a coupon for a free day pass to a New Hampshire State Park.

Donors also can enter to win a complete family camping package from Eureka and free week of camping. Donate in June and you are also eligible to win a $200 gift card, courtesy of Suburban Propane.
