WINDHAM — Parkland Medical Center recently celebrated the contributions of several employees, physicians, and volunteers in its annual awards ceremony at Castleton Banquet and Conference Center.
This event is a celebration of the entire team that makes Parkland a consistent leader in health-care quality, as well as a wonderful place to work, according to Chief Executive Officer Tina Legere.
"The award winners all demonstrate dependability, accountability, integrity quality and passion," Legere said. "They also share a willingness to help others and a passion to help their patients, coworkers and their community."
Sharyn Ramos, a clinical analyst in the Information Technology Department, was this year's recipient of the Parkland Pride Award.
John Burke, director of plant operations received the Management Excellence Award and accountant Mike Pero received the Support Service Excellence Award.
The Excellence in Quality Award went to a team of nurses — Rita Esty, Carol Dabrowski, Diane Fleming, Danielle Holland, Anne Marie Orlando and Peg Pedone. The Nurse of the Year Award was given to Ida Sweeney and the LNA/Tech of the Year Award went to Tyra McKinnon.
The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given each year to one physician, one employee and one volunteer in recognition of their humanitarian contributions and achievements. Each recipient was nominated by their peers. The award is named after the late Hospital Corporation of America founder Dr. Thomas F. Frist Sr. Parkland is part of the corporation.
Frist winners demonstrate remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of others, and have performed extraordinary acts of kindness, community service and humility.
This year's winners were volunteer Jackie Elsmore, Dr. Thomas Scott and employee Michael Brodeur.
Long-time Parkland employees also were recognized. Jeanne Gordon, a registered nurse in the hospital's operating room, and physical therapist Ann Sweet have been part of the hospital's team for 25 years.
Patricia Hines from the Communications Department and Marie Potvin from Health Information Management were recognized for 30 years of service.
