Derry couple renew vows at Pleasant Valley

By Julie Huss

---- — DERRY — After more than 40 years, it was time to say “I do” one more time.

Bill and Dorothy Carter renewed their wedding vows in front of friends and staff at Pleasant Valley nursing facility on June 13. The couple has lived at the facility for several years.

Married in Haverhill, Mass., in December 1971, it was time to commit to each other one more time.

Pleasant Valley residents and staff filled the facility’s function room for the ceremony, complete with cake, a toast, rose petals and music.

Salvation Army’s Lt. Chris Williams presided over the ceremony. He said he is a regular visitor to Pleasant Valley and always enjoys talking with the Carters.

“I always visit them,” he said. “They bring a smile to my face.”

Williams said Bill Carter once owned a pizza business and now spends his Friday nights at Pleasant Valley helping bake pizza for dinner.

He wore a rosebud on his shirt and Dottie Carter held a bouquet. Williams told the couple they were an inspiration to everyone.

Following the ceremony, everyone toasted the couple as they shared a post-ceremony kiss.

“I don’t know what else to say except we love you all,” Bill Carter said.
