Meals on Wheels makes holidays bright

There will be holiday cheer for those who participate in the Rockingham County Meals on Wheels program.

Patrons will be part of the program’s “Santa For Seniors” efforts this season.

With more than 1,300 clients taking part in either home meal delivery or eating meals at 13 sites around the region, it’s a way to help and hope to those who may be struggling this season.

“We make sure every one gets a present,” Meals on Wheels field supervisor Patty King said.

Many of the program’s clients are homebound and depend on the food delivery every day.

Through donations from community partners and sponsors, Meals on Wheels provides small gifts like word search and crossword books and puzzles.

“It’s just something to say Santa came to see them,” King said. “We’ve got to take care of our seniors.”

It’s not just at the holidays when Meals on Wheels gives clients a boost.

People are also celebrated on their birthdays with small gifts and cupcakes.

Meals on Wheels meals are served daily at the Londonderry Senior Center and also at the Marion Gerrish Community Center.
