HEALTH BRIEFS

Need for blood remains in summer

The American Red Cross will hold several community blood drives during the month of July. All eligible and new blood donors are encouraged to give blood. Blood donors are needed every day to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

The summer months can be a challenging time for blood collections. Donations tend to decline, due to high school and college vacations, summer travel and other planned activities. However, the blood needs of hospital patients do not get a vacation.

In July, all donors will receive a coupon for $2.50 off the purchase of a 48-ounce container of Turkey Hill’s All Natural Ice Cream. Come out to donate blood and you will also have the chance to win two Boston Red Sox tickets and to be honored at Fenway Park as the Blood Donor of the Game.

Head to Londonderry Lions Hall, 256 Mammoth Road, July 9 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Donors will be needed July 16 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 18 Folsom Road, Derry.

Londonderry High School at 295 Mammoth Road will host a blood drive July 22 from 2 to 7 p.m.

To make an appointment to donate blood, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org.
