Dr. Patricia Timmeny was recently recognized by the Greater Derry Oral Health Collaborative Corporation as one of the organization’s supervising dentists for the past 20 years.
Timmeny was one of a group of community members assembled by the Alexander Eastman Foundation in 1993 to create a school dental program for Derry and Londonderry elementary students. The GDOHCC is the area nonprofit for the Children’s Dental Network in greater Derry schools.
Dental hygienists deliver preventive dental services to area students who lack access to routine dental care.
Oversight is provided by supervising dentists like Timmeny, who works at Apple Tree Orthodontics in Londonderry and volunteered her time from 1993 to 2013 as a supervising dentist.
Dr. Rachel Polgrean, who also works at Apple Tree Orthodontics, has also volunteered her time as a supervising dentist with GDOHCC.
This year, GDOHCC is very fortunate to have Derry orthodontist Dr. Stephen Caldwell and Derry dentist Dr. Brenda Berkal serving as supervising dentists.
They join Dr. Sarah Finne of Hampstead, who has also been providing support for many years. Thousands of children, who otherwise may not have, received valuable preventive dental services like dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and temporary fillings in their schools through the work of these volunteers.
All of these dentists, along with many others in the area, continue to volunteer their time to do dental screenings in the many schools served by the Children’s Dental Network. GDOHCC programs now serve children at Derry WIC, Derry Head Start and students from kindergarten through eighth grade in Derry, Londonderry, Salem, Hampstead, Windham, Chester and Sandown.
