---- — Health insurance help offered

DERRY — As a result of the Affordable Care Act of 2010, individuals now have the opportunity to purchase private health insurance in New Hampshire.

For some with limited income there are opportunities for reduced premiums and cost sharing in order to make plans affordable.

Greater Derry Community Health Services has trained personnel certified as in-person assisters to help consumers understand and enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace. The goal of the assister is to provide information on available choices and support consumers as they complete the application and plan selection process. There is no charge for the service.

Interested consumers can call CHS at 425-2545 for an appointment. People can also stop by the office for information at 14 Tsienneto Road, Suite 301.

Fall prevention seminar set

DERRY — A fall prevention seminar is planned on Jan. 5 from 11 a.m. to noon at Birch Heights retirement facility, 7 Kendall Pond Road.

The seminar is presented by Interim Healthcare and includes vital information for seniors about ways to stay safe and prevent falls. The event is free. A complimentary lunch will be served.

Adult yoga to begin

DERRY — Derry Parks and Recreation offers a winter adult yoga program beginning Jan. 6. There are two winter sessions offered on Mondays or Thursdays.

The program includes five classes of 75 minutes each at Alexander-Carr Lodge off Pierce Avenue. Participants will learn the proper ways to stretch, breathe, and will learn yoga postures and relaxation techniques.
