CLM offers groups for kids, teens

Derry News

---- — DERRY — Helping children and teens with behavioral health concerns reach their potential for well-being and success is a primary goal for the Center for Life Management. CLM’s Child, Adolescent and Family services announces the upcoming schedule of psycho-therapeutic and skill-building groups focused on helping children and teens attain that success.

Led by children’s clinicians, they are geared to specific age groups and cover a variety of topics such as anger and conflict management, self-esteem, coping with anxiety, social skills development, substance abuse, and coping with grief and loss.

“Being part of a therapeutic group can be a profound, powerful and helpful experience for children and teens. Groups can be especially beneficial for young people who are feeling alienated and isolated, or carry around a sense that no one else feels the way they do,” said Louise Morin-Davy, director of Child, Adolescent and Family Services. “In a group, these kids have the opportunity to be heard and also learn to listen to other people, which is a valuable tool gained from group participation.”

In the upcoming sessions, group topics being offered include: Substance Abuse Addiction and Recovery, ages 14-18; Social Skills Group, ages 9-11; Emotional Skills Group, ages 14-18; Anger Management Group, co-ed middle school; Anger Management Group, ages 5-8; Grief and Loss Group, ages 14-18; Expressive Arts Therapy, co-ed group ages 14-17; What To Do With Your Worries Group, ages 5-8; Coping with Divorce, ages 9-13; Girls Self-Esteem, middle school.

The Center for Life Management is a nonprofit community mental health organization that last year served more than 5,500 people, including 1,600 children and adolescents. The Center for Life Management has outpatient offices in Derry, Salem and Hampstead, and provides comprehensive behavioral health services for all ages.

Pre-registration and an intake assessment are required for participation in any of these therapy groups.
