Top youth volunteers sought for awards
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards begins its 19th annual search for New Hampshire’s top volunteers.
Students in grades 5 through 12 can apply for the awards through Nov. 5, based on community contributions and volunteer services. The awards were created in 1995 to put middle and high school students in the spotlight for their efforts.
Awards are presented on the local, state and national level.
New Hampshire’s top youth volunteers of 2013 were Mariah Larocque, 17, of Derry and Anne MacLeod, 14, of Windham. Mariah, the state’s top high school volunteer, took the lead and started a nonprofit to work on several service projects in town including helping at the soup kitchen and aiding a local assisted living facility. Anne took middle school honors and worked with young people to help teach the sport of water skiing to children with disabilities.
Applicants for the 2014 awards can apply by Nov. 5. Information is available by calling (877) 525-8491.
