---- — Pinkerton pays tribute to DeMeo

DERRY — On May 29, the Pinkerton Academy community paid tribute to 1st Lt. Paul DeMeo, a member of the Class of 2007, who died May 14 while serving in the Army at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Students, staff and administration formed a line along ByPass 28 near the campus to pay respects to DeMeo as the hearse passed following his funeral at St. Thomas Aquinas Center in Derry. DeMeo was buried in the state veterans cemetery in Boscawen.

Summer enrichment programs offered

LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry School District offers a full schedule of summer enrichment activities for students, including programs on cooking, arts and crafts, technology, music, fitness and much more.

Programs are held at various school locations throughout the district. They run June 25 through July 26. Schedule information, classes, times and costs can be found at londonderry.org. Registration deadline is June 7.

Dollars for Scholars host golf event

LONDONDERRY — The 15th annual Londonderry Dollars for Scholars Golf Tournament is set for June 26 at Passaconaway County Club in Litchfield.

Tournament proceeds go to support Dollars for Scholars scholarships. Registration is at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost to play is $125 per person.

Londonderry Dollars for Scholars is a registered, nonprofit program of the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America. It is part of a national network of nearly 800 community scholarship organizations in 38 states.

ROTC students honored

DERRY — On May 23, Pinkerton Academy’s AFJROTC cadets were honored during the program’s annual awards night ceremony. Lt. Col. Howard Steadman presented more than 20 awards from national veteran organizations and many other unit awards.

Senior Nathaniel Beede earned a $750 Nathan Foley AFROTC Memorial Award; a four-year ROTC scholarship went to Joseph Durant; the Silver Valor Award went to Jonathan Niebla; outstanding first-year cadet award went to Baylie Scheibert; second-year award to Matthew Slobig; third-year award to Justin Govereault; and fourth-year honors went to Jacquielyn Tormey.

Instructors Leadership Award was given to Timothy MacGregor. Justin Goudreault was named as next year’s Cadet Group Commander.

LHS drum majors named

Londonderry’s Lancer Band has named its newest drum majors for next year.

Junior Rebecca Walker was chosen to help lead the band. She was selected from a field of 20 candidates following a week of practice.

She joins currrent drum majors Joe Conti and Danielle Souza, both seniors next year.
