Grinnell students pitch in to help food pantry

DERRY — Students in Derry hope to help families in need this season.

Grinnell Elementary students took their annual journey down the street to the First Baptist Church food pantry last Friday, carrying bundles of collected nonperishable fod items to donate.

Students at Grinnell have made the walk to the food pantry an annual fall excursion.

Many groups in town will be donating food this season, including local churches and organizations.

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church children decorate paper bags every Thanksgiving with turkey pictures and other handmade artwork and parishioners fill the bags to be delivered to the food pantry.

Rotary members also collect food during the annual holiday parade to donate to local food causes.

Items most in demand at this time at First Baptist include tuna, juice, macaroni and cheese, and peanut butter.
