LHS baccalaureate moves to Concord

LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry High School baccalaureate ceremony will be held in Concord next year, as opposed to Manchester as in previous years.

Principal Jason Parent told the School Board them about the switch last week.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the Palace Theater in Manchester cannot host the event this year.

Students looked at several different locations in Southern New Hampshire, Parent said.

The ceremony will be held at the Capital Center for the Arts in Concord. Parent said the price for the affair is about $2,800, less than the cost of the Palace Theater.

Although the School Board had no vote or decision in the matter, board member John Robinson said he was opposed to the idea.

“Concord, to me, seems too far,” he said.

Robinson said the students did not consider enough options, including the high school gymnasium and did not factor in traffic and traveling expenses.

Parent said the ceremony is a formal and theatrical event and could not be held at the high school.

Baccalaureate is set for June 13.
