Pinkerton DI team takes on the world

Pinkerton Academy was one of four local Destination ImagiNation teams that took on the world during last month's Destination Imagination Global finals held in Knoxville, Tenn.

The team of Ryan Guest, Rachel Lanza, Brendan Mullaney and Breanne Mullen were the highest-placed New Hampshire team in their challenge.

The team qualified for the world competition at the state finals at Winnicunnet High School. Pinkerton students also won the Renaissance Award for Outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution or Performance for their Coming Attractions challenge during the state event.

While in Knoxville, the Pinkerton students earned 26th place out of 79 teams they went up against in their specific challenge category.

Head Start accepting applications for fall

Rockingham County Head Start is currently accepting applications at all sites for the 2012-2013 school year. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program for low income children and families, including children with disabilities. Head Start promotes school readiness by enhancing cognitive, social and emotional development.

Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities that support growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science and creative arts. To be eligible children must be 3 or 4 by Sept. 30, 2012, and live in Rockingham County.

Families must meet income eligibility guidelines and there is no cost to eligible families. Sites are located in Derry, Epping, Newmarket, Portsmouth and Hampton Falls with classes running five days a week, September through June.

Pinkerton hosts Memorial Day

Pinkerton Academy paid tribute to all veterans in a ceremony held in the Stockbridge Theatre on May 24.

JROTC students, faculty, student body and special guests gathered for the annual observance. Choral and band members offered patriotic music and American Sign Language students presented the Pledge of Allegiance, "America the Beautiful" and the national anthem all in sign language.
