Solar Sprint coming to Derry on Saturday

DERRY — Gilbert H. Hood Middle School students will participate in the annual Solar Sprint races on Saturday, June 7, at the Pinkerton Academy football field.

Each science teacher from the school will sponsor a team of students to build solar cars to race to the finish.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with registration and inspection of cars. Races begin at 10 a.m. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Hood dining hall.

German Consulate official visits LHS

LONDONDERRY — Londonderry High School’s Brad Herrick, a student of German and the Bio-Technology course at the school, recruited a visit from Dr. Peter-Paul Henze, science liaison officer to the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Boston, to come speak to students.

His visit was May 29 and included information on the life sciences and other cultural and language-oriented information.

According to Henze, one of the most pleasant tasks the German Consulate is charged with is to support schools teaching German and to foster that proficiency as a valuable tool in communication.

Biennial Alumni Day planned

DERRY — Pinkerton Academy hosts its Biennial Alumni Day Saturday, June 21 at noon at the senior cafe in the school’s Spaulding Center.

The longtime tradition joins alumni from all graduating classes for a luncheon event and celebration. Prior to the meal, the Alumni Assocation hosts its annual business meeting.
