Pinkerton students take two-state Challenge

Pinkerton Academy wins two-state quiz team honors

DERRY — Fresh off the big Granite State Challenge win, a team of Pinkerton Academy students represented the state and ousted a Massachusetts team for the NH-MA Governor’s Cup Challenge crown.

Pinkerton students won the New Hampshire Public Television Granite State Super Challenge honor and then went on to beat Acton-Boxborough High School’s team by a score of 365-200.

Acton-Boxborough was the winner of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show.

“It was beyond my wildest dreams to have qualified for this game,” Pinkerton team coach Peter Crowell said. “I’m proud of my students for doing so well.”

Crowell was joined by team advisor Pam Griswold.

Pinkerton emerged as the leader all through this season’s Granite State Challenge program, its 30th season.

The six-member team won many matches and finally came out on top over Bishop Guertin High School, qualifying the students to move on to face Acton-Boxborough in the Governor’s Cup event.

Pinkerton was represented by team captain Ben Foley, Sara Tridenti, Jake Hudgins and Joe Ronca. Alternates were Rebekah Terry and Adam DeMio.

Granite State Challenge began the season with 16 teams from all over New Hampshire.
