Derry schools offer summer enrichment camp

DERRY — Students in Derry can create their own camp this summer.

The Derry Cooperative School District offers its annual “Create Your Own Camp” schedule of enrichment classes and activities.

Classes are held in two sessions, July 7-11 and July 14-18, and run between 8 a.m. through 2:45 p.m.

Students can register for sessions throughout the day. Classes this season include some past favorites including archery, cake decorating, sports, cupcakes, guitar and bass, bubble-ology, mixed media art and creative writing.

New classes this summer include Silly Science, quilting, Korean culture, pop art, keyboards, watercolor painting, specialty cupcakes and Bubbles for Big Kids.

All grades are invited to participate.

In addition to regular enrichment classes, students can take part in two-week summer band camp running July 7-11 and July 14-18.

Session I runs from 8 to 10 a.m. for students entering sixth grade with some playing experience. Session 2 is 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for those students entering grades 7-9.

The band camp is held this year at West Running Brook Middle School and will be led by Mark Christen.

The camp includes rehearsals each day in large ensembles and also in smaller sectionals. There will be no individual lessons. A concert is held on the last day of the camp, July 18.

Information about summer enrichment or band camp is available on the school district site at sau10.or or through school offices.
