DERRY — A familiar face in the Derry School District will head up the road to lead another of the town's schools.
Kim Hogan, assistant principal at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, was chosen as the new principal at East Derry Memorial Elementary School.
The School Board approved Hogan's position at a meeting April 10.
East Derry Principal Tom Poliseno announced his retirement at the end of this school year.
Assistant principal Cara Donati is moving to a new position in the district as federal projects director.
Superintendent Mary Ellen Hannon said a search committee interviewed candidates to replace Poliseno, and narrowed it down to two finalists.
Hogan has been assistant principal at Hood for seven years. Prior to that, she was an elementary teacher.
Hogan said working at Hood gave her valuable information as she moves forward into a principal role at East Derry.
"The Hood students and staff have been fabulous," she said. "I think I'm ready to take on the next challenge in my career."
That challenge will include getting to know her new staff and students.
Hannon said the choice is a good one.
"I think it was a wonderful decision," she said.
Hannon also is leaving her job at the end of this year.
Dr. Laura Nelson was recently chosen to replace Hannon as the district's new superintendent.
She was part of East Derry's principal search.
