Technology fair for Derry schools May 17

The Derry Schools Technology Fair is set for May 17 at West Running Brook Middle School from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. This a yearly event for all staff members in the Derry School District.

The purpose of the event is to have staff (both teachers and administrators) share their technology know-how through a series of workshops and share-a-thons aimed at increasing the district proficiency in technology.

Included in the workshops this year will be a presentation from Apple Computers on Mobile technology, demonstrations of equipment purchased through the 21st Century Grants, workshops on writing technology goals and much more.

Media camp taking registrations

LONDONDERRY — The advanced summer media camp at The Londonderry Access Center will be held Aug. 6 to 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This camp is open to students entering seventh- to ninth grade in September 2012. Students must have previously taken the beginner summer media camp or have had complete training with Londonderry Access Center.

In the advanced camp, students will be able to strengthen the skills they learned in the beginner camp, as well as learn new and more advanced techniques in television production. They will produce a TV show of their choosing in just a few short days.

The cost of the camp is $25, and payment must be received to reserve a spot. This camp is open to Londonderry residents. Others can participate if space is available. Participants must attend all days of the camp.

Head Start accepting applications

Rockingham County Head Start is currently accepting applications at all sites for the 2012-2013 school year. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program for low income children and families, including children with disabilities. Head Start promotes school readiness by enhancing cognitive, social and emotional development.

Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities that support growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science and creative arts. To be eligible children must be 3 or 4 by Sept. 30, 2012, and live in Rockingham County.

Families must meet income eligibility guidelines and there is no cost to eligible families. Sites are located in Derry, Epping, Newmarket, Portsmouth and Hampton Falls with classes running five days a week, September through June.
