See Varitek in Derry May 22

DERRY — Former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek will make his first Granite State appearance since his retirement on Tuesday, May 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant, 35 Manchester Road.

Autographs range from $25 to $89, depending on the item being signed. Varitek will not sign "captain" on any item, nor will he autograph any pictures of the fight with Yankee Alex Rodriguez.

The restaurant is in the Hannaford plaza, across from Wal-Mart.

Plan ahead for Free Fishing Day

N.H. Free Fishing Day is coming on Saturday, June 2, so plan to get out and cast a line with your family and friends on the state's lakes, rivers and streams. On Free Fishing Day, state residents and nonresidents alike can fish any inland water — or saltwater — in New Hampshire without a fishing license.

All other fishing regulations must be followed on Free Fishing Day, including season dates and bag limits. There is one exception: you still need a fishing license and a special permit to fish for brood stock Atlantic salmon in the Merrimack and lower Pemigewasset rivers.
