Students get hands-on construction lessons

MSI Mechanical Systems of Salem participated in the N.H. Construction Career Days at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds last week and some students got a hands-on look at brazing.

The two day hands-on career fair exposes New Hampshire high school students to possible career paths in both the construction and transportation industries through exhibits and educational resources.

Project managers Jim Bigelow and Sean McNamara welcomed high school students to the MSI demo booth at the NH Construction Career Days held at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds on Thursday, September 19 and Friday, September 20.

“As a strong advocate of educating high school students about the trades, MSI was pleased to participate in this year’s construction career fair,” said Brian Hooper, vice president of MSI. “At our MSI booth, we designed a hands-on, realistic HVAC project where we show students how to cut black iron pipe with a pipe cutter and we also show students how to braze copper piping with a torch. That’s something you don’t do in the classrooms at high school.”
