Pinkerton Academy to install new Hall of Famers

---- — DERRY — Pinkerton Academy will induct its next installment of Hall of Fame honorees in a ceremony slated for Sept. 27.

The newest inductees were announced at commencement activities in June of this year.

Those being inducted for 2013 are:

William Cofrin, a Pinkerton faculty member who died in June 2012. He taught at the school for 28 years and was known as a dedicated staff member. He was also a coach, leading football and lacrosse teams for many years.

Maureen Burns Boak, Class of 2002, was class president for four years and had a perfect high school attendance record. She played field hockey, basketball and lacrosse and earned 10 varsity letters. She also excelled in debate skills and was named a three-time national All-American while playing sports at Bryant University.

Brian Thacker, Class of 1963, was also an athlete and participated in many Pinkerton plays and productions. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Richard Nixon in 1973.

John Almy Rider, a long-time Pinkerton staff member, spent 32 years at the school serving as a maintenance superintendent. He was mentioned in a Pinkerton history book as a “Jack of all trades,” serving the institution in many capacities and giving tirelessly for years.

Glenn Ahrens is the current Dean of Students and started his relationship with Pinkerton in 1980 as a member of the science department. He also was a sports coach and advised the school’s Outing Club.

Brendan James Ernst, a member of the Class of 1998, is now enjoying singing success on the New York City scene and beyond. Known professionally as Brendan James Ernst played sports while at Pinkerton, excelled at performing with the Pinkerton Players and often took the lead in musicals. His voice and music can now be heard on many recordings, in movies and on television.

The ceremony on Sept. 27 begins at 6:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner followed by the awards ceremony. Tickets are available through Pinkerton’s Alumni Center or by calling 437-5217.
