Two new assistant prinicipals approved in Derry

DERRY —The school district's administrative team will have new faces in the fall.

The School Board approved hiring Susan Gualtieri and Andrew Chouinard as new assistant principals in the district.

Gualtieri will work at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School alongside fellow assistant principal Joe Crawford and principal Austin Garofalo.

Chouinard will head to East Derry Memorial Elementary School to be assistant to newly named principal Kim Hogan.

Hogan had previously been assistant principal at Hood before being approved to lead East Derry.

Both come with long lists of administrative experience.

Gualtieri is currently a housemaster at Londonderry Middle School and also served as a reading specialist.

Chouinard is the assistant principal at Deerfield Community School.

Garofalo told School Board members that Gualtieri would be a good fit at Hood.

"She comes to us with a great deal of experience," he said. "She will be a fantastic fit with Joe Crawford and myself."

Growing up and working in Londonderry, Gualtieri said she is ready for the challenge and said she believes she knows the area well.

"I hope the experience I gained at Londonderry Middle School will provide me with skills to be a really great assistant principal," she said.

For Chouinard, it's his years of teaching and then working his way up into administration that give him the right skills for the job at East Derry Memorial.

He said he was a physical education teacher and coached a lot of teams.

Superintendent Mary Ellen Hannon, who will leave the district at the end of the school year, said new superintendent Laura Nelson was part of the assistant principal hiring process.
