Grinnell honored with 'Get Active, Get Fit' honor

Grinnell wins visit from radio DJs

DERRY — Grinnell Elementary School students took to the dance floor earlier this week to celebrate good health.

Grinnell was one of five schools to win New Hampshire’s “Get Active, Get Fit” School Fitness Challenge, hosted by Radio Disney and Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

The school received a special visit from Radio Disney DJs Monday as part of their prize.

The “Get Active, Get Fit” School Fitness Challenge was designed to motivate kids and their families to get healthy together through fun activities.

Grinnell earned the honor by being among the schools with the highest percentage of participation in the fitness program. It was the second consecutive year Grinnell won the dance party.

Students achieved the prize by taking part in 20 minutes of fitness activities for 40 consecutive days, out of a total of 55.

Radio Disney crews got students hopping with warm-up activities and dance lessons. There were also hula hoop contests. Teachers wore Mickey Mouse-shaped hats and ears. Students in each grade wore their own bright colors.

Grinnell teachers got a chance to show their own moves on stage during one of the dance lessons.

“Get Active, Get Fit” was designed to motivate children and their families to get healthy together.

Students in each grade level also won a bag of recess and play equipment.

More than 10,000 students from 39 elementary schools from across New Hampshire participated in the challenge.
