Reflections art show puts student talent on display

DERRY — Art took center stage during the New Hampshire PTA Reflections exhibit March 13 at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.

The annual art display puts student art from all over the Granite State on public view for families to enjoy. Top awards are given for the best entries in various categories, including literature, visual arts, photography, dance choreography and musical composition.

Students in grades preschool through grade 12 can participate in the Reflections program.

This year’s Reflections theme was “The Magic of a Moment.” More than 320 entries filled the halls and walls in Hood’s gym. One hundred awards were given out to top Reflections entries.

State Reflections chairman Sally Bertrand said there were 31 PTAs from around the state participating with a grand total of 1,300 entries sent in this year.

All first-place entries will move on to national judging with results coming in May.

First-place finishers included Jacob Lebroda, Ernest P. Barka Elementary, literature; Sophie Ball, Ernest P. Barka Elementary, photography; Alicia Nourse, Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, photography.

Second-place honors went to Emily Borges, South Range Elementary, literature; Alex Harrison, Matthew Thornton Elementary (Londonderry), photography.

Third-place awards went to Ashleigh Lemay, Ernest P. Barka Elementary, literature; Adria Forand, Ernest P. Barka Elementary, photography; Sean Clegg, Matthew Thornton Elementary (Londonderry).

Honorable mention awards went to Matthew Thornton’s Olivia Colliton, literature; South Londonderry’s Jessica Popoloski, visual arts; South Londonderry’s Dylan Solano, photography; Tracy Hickey, Barka Elementary, visual arts; Julia Barton, Moose Hill in Londonderry, photography; and Zachary Knauff, Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, visual arts.
