---- — LONDONDERRY — Eight students graduated from the Londonderry School District’s Adult Education program in a commencement ceremony Jan. 23 at the high school.
The students donned blue and white caps and gowns to receive their honors.
Adult education program director Gregory Warren began the night. He told students their accomplishments were great and needed to be celebrated.
“Your life hasn’t always been easy,” he said. “Each of you have unique life circumstances. A lot of obstacles have to be overcome in life and, hopefully, we’ve helped you navigate some of those.”
Warren told the graduates never to give up on their dreams for the future.
One graduate with a dream was featured speaker Cassandra Freitas of Hudson, the mother of a 2-year-old son, who told her fellow graduates that anything can be accomplished with hard work and goals for the future.
“I want my son to know what I went through to get this high school diploma,” she said. “It took me two years and I was a semester early and now I’m here graduating.”
She said her path was often stressful and difficult, but her message was to never give up.
“You did something no one can take away from you,” she told the graduates. “Just never give up.”
Freitas also thanked her little boy for being the “best gift” she ever received.
Londonderry superintendent Nathan Greenberg told the graduates that each one of them worked extremely hard to achieve their goal of a high school diploma.
“Your future is bright with promise,” Greenberg said. “You’ve made a choice, clearly not an easy choice, but a choice for a brighter future. And, by your choice, you will build a positive life.”
To date, more than 400 students have graduated from the adult education program. Commencement ceremonies are held twice a year.
