DERRY — School district staff members are staying as healthy as possible both on and off the job.
District business administrator Jane Simard told School Board members that staffers participated recently in a wellness initiative through the Health Trust company, which sent representatives to West Running Brook Middle School last month to offer biometric screenings to employees.
Those screenings included blood pressure, BMI, glucose levels and blood pressure, Simard said. All staff members who participated received a $50 health bonus.
“It was a really big turnout for employees,” Simard said.
She added the district’s human resources director Kathleen Kennedy is also working to present other valuable health and nutrition initiatives to the district’s workers including the nutritional “Color Choices” program.
That program gives information on choosing just the right amount of fruits and vegetables a day and is supported by a Health Trust grant.
The six-week program also offers staff raffles and prizes for doing a good job on their eating habits both at school and at home.
The more employees that part in the wellness programs offered, the more grant support will come Derry’s way, Simard said.
