---- — DERRY — Pinkerton Academy has set its 2014 commencement date.
The Derry high school will host graduation on Monday, June 16, at 4 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester.
Headmaster Mary Anderson announced the details and sent home a letter to parents.
“We wanted to provide early notice so families can make plans,” Anderson said.
Pinkerton will celebrate its 200th anniversary next year and Anderson noted in her letter that she hoped to bring graduation back to the school campus for 2014.
The ceremony has been held in Manchester for the past several years.
“We determined after careful and thoughtful research that there are sufficient obstacles which prevent a comfortable and convenient graduation on the Pinkerton campus,” she said. “Attendance for recent years has been around 5,000, presenting logistics of safety, security, accessibility and parking.”
The weather also proves challenging when graduation approaches, she said.
More details about graduation will follow.
