DERRY — The Derry School District will take the ice and enjoy a night with the Manchester Monarchs hockey team.
On March 8, 2014, Derry students and staff will be honored during a Derry School District Day at a Manchester Monarchs’ game at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Derry students will be participating in various special activities throughout the game, including a national anthem rendition by Ernest P. Barka Elementary School students and other special events.
“This will be a special day for our students,” Superintendent Laura Nelson said.
March is also National Middle School Month, so students may get some extra perks alongside the Monarchs, Nelson said.
That could include other activities putting Derry students into the spotlight, including a student art show or small ensemble performances during the day.
Nelson said all district schools will be spending the next several months collecting student and school photos that will be projected on the Verizon Jumbo-Tron screen during the game.
The local PTAs will also be able to earn proceeds from the Monarchs’ popular “chuck-a-puck” halftime activity.
Nelson said other schools around the state will have an opportunity to share a special night with the Monarchs to bring attention to the successes in the local school systems.
