Derry hosts summer band camp
Derry School District offers a two-week summer band camp this year. The camp will run the weeks of July 8-12 and July 15-19 at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.
Camp is directed this summer by Mark Christen. The two-week session gives students a chance to have fun learning new music and sharpening their musical skills. The camp also gives a jump start to the band program in the fall.
The camp is open to all band students currently in grades 5-8. Instruction includes large ensemble playing and sectionals, but no individual lessons. A concert will be presented on the last day of camp.
Hours for the Session I camp are from 8 to 10 a.m. each day for students entering sixth grade with some playing experience. Session 2 camp is held from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. to students entering grades 7, 8 or 9.
The cost is $85.
Registration is available by visiting the school district at sau10.org.
