DERRY — LifeWay Church continues to draw crowds.
The church’s seventh annual community block party was held at MacGregor Park last Saturday and hundreds of people came out to enjoy a free day of food, games, a bounce house and music.
The day also included LifeWay’s annual backpack distribution to help prepare students for the opening day of school.
About 1,000 backpacks were expected to be given away.
The church has been rooted in Derry for many years, meeting regularly at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, and hosting the summer block party for families.
Pastor Juan Saa has led the church since 2004 and said the block party every year helps LifeWay spread the message of good news about faith and hope.
He said the block party is also a way to help keep families together for a day of community spirit.
