Derry honored for financial reporting

By Julie Huss

---- — DERRY — The town has once again earned high honors for its financial reporting.

Derry was awarded its 15th straight certificate of achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The award was presented to the town for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 20, 2012.

This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Getting the award is a significant accomplishment by a town government and those who manage the financial reports.

Derry’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to insure it met the high standards of the program.

“We appreciate the award,” said Frank Childs, Chief Financial Officer.

Childs said the report also aids Derry when ratings for bonds and other financial projects are put into place.

He accepted the award at the Town Council meeting Sept. 17.

Acting Town Administrator Larry Budreau thanked Childs and his finance team for their good work.

“The town is proud to have again received this prestigious award for the 15th year in a row, recognizing the town for excellence in financial reporting to its citizens,” Budreau said.

He said the honor shows that Derry continues to maintain the highest standards of financial reporting.

“The compilation of this report involves a significant effort by the town’s Finance Department headed by Childs and Controller Janice Mosby,” he said, “along with staff members Mark Fleischer, Bob McCarthy, Debbie Mailloux and Sonata McPhail, and they are to be commended for this achievement.”
