DERRY — Every year when it’s time for Derryfest to roll around, a local organization continues its quest to keep children safe.
St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge in Derry hosts its annual Child Identification Program, or CHIP, as part of the town’s Derryfest celebration.
The event is set for Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lodge, 58 East Broadway.
Children 18 and younger can come with parents to the lodge to have a brief filmed interview and have DNA swabs and fingerprints taken.
All materials will be given to parents for safekeeping. No copies are kept on file and the program is free to all.
The Masons have been hosting the CHIP event for many years, part of the local organization’s community service program mission.
It is estimated that more than 7,000 children have participated in CHIP events throughout New Hampshire.
