DERRY — Town councilors approved a measure that would give local police a chance to apply for grant funding to enhance DWI patrols and speed enforcement measures.
The grant funding comes from the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency and would give police money to add extra hours to the force for DWI and speed enforcement patrols.
Money includes $7,800 in grant funding for DWI patrols and $5,720 to enhance the departments speed enforcement work.
The police department has prepared preliminary applications for the two grants.
Police Chief Edward Garone said there would be minimal impact to the budget; all salary-related expenses and associated for all hours worked under these projects are reimbursed 100 percent by the NH Highway Safety Agency.
