Pinkerton Academy scores big on 'Challenge'

DERRY — A team of students from Pinkerton Academy took on a Mascoma Valley Regional High School team in a recent Granite State Challenge competition.

The New Hampshire Public Television program pits students from high schools all over the state against each other for big wins in the academic-based program.

Pinkerton’s team appeared on the March 10 episode and came out on top by a score of 175-135.

Questions ranged from movie trivia, to famous first ladies, to geography and math.

Longtime host Jim Jeannotte fired questions one after another at the student teams for quick recall answers.

Pinkerton and Mascoma Valley were two of 16 schools out of an original 48 high schools making the cut for this season’s competition.

Pinkerton will now advance to the next level of Granite State Challenge competition.

Granite State Challenge began back in 1984 and was patterned after the College Bowl-type of programs. Tom Bergeron was the original host of the program.
