PET OF THE WEEK: Happy tales

Derry News

---- — The list of success stories keeps growing.

Since the Derry News began its Pet of the Week more than a year ago, many dogs and cats have found new homes through the Greater Derry Humane Society.

Pets featured each week have tugged at some heartstrings of those wanting to help give these animals new life in a new permanent home.

Recent success stories include Cayla, a miniature pinscher featured several times as Pet of the Week. She is now enjoying her new home with a Derry family who saw her photo in the newspaper and decided to offer her a “forever” home.

Maggie, another dog featured numerous times as Pet of the Week, also has found a permanent home.

Dogs Max, Pepe and Bella and kitty Shadow all were featured and all have been adopted.

Greater Derry Humane Society director Barbara McCarthy said more pets needing homes will be listed soon after they are trained and ready to go.

Until then, McCarthy urges anyone wanting to help to consider becoming a foster home for pets waiting for adoption, or even learning more about pet therapy in area nursing homes.

Helping hands are always needed for the all-volunteer Humane Society and there is a job for anyone wanting to help animals in need.
