---- — Charity yard sale is planned for Sunday

Etz Hayim Synagogue, 11/2 Hood Road, hosts a charity yard sale on Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the synagogue.

Money raised will support Eiljah’s Table, a joint project of Etz Hayim and the adjacent Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, serving bi-monthly free meals to the community.

Items for sale include bikes, scooters, sports and exercise equipment, toys, jewelry, children’s books and furniture. There will be treats and face painting. For information, visit freemealsinderry.blogspot.com.

Birch Heights hosts picnic and yard sale

A Family and Friends Picnic, Yard and Craft Sale will be held at Birch Heights on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Outside space rental is $25. Hot dogs, chips and soda will be $4.

All proceeds will be donated to the Outward Bound for Veterans program.

Outward Bound for Veterans helps soldiers reacclimate to society through wilderness courses .

In 2011, more than 300 Holiday Retirement communities throughout the country through fundraising events and donations from residents, their families, fellow veterans and communities members were able to raise $1.2 million to send 600 deserving veterans through the Outward Bound for Veterans program.

Friends’ book sale is all set for Aug. 8

The Friends of the Derry Libraries will host an August evening book sale on Aug. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Derry Public Library.

Hardcover books are $1 and paperbacks are 50 cents. Proceeds will support the summer programs at the Derry libraries and continue to purchase museum passes available to library patrons.

Block party planned

A Community Block Party on Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at MacGregor Park. Free event for the entire family including food, entertainment, rides, cotton candy, sno-cones, popcorn, face painting and more.

Every school-aged child will receive a free backpack. The eighth annual party is hosted by eight of Derry’s local Christian churches. For more information, visit lifewaychurch.net.

Library program winds down

Derry Public Library winds down is summer reading program with an end of summer party for all readers on Aug. 8 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., Lindsay and her Puppet Pals return to the library for stories and fun; at 2:30 p.m. an ice cream social with games to follow.

On Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. the library hosts a “Super Summer Readers Party” for those who read 100 books or 50 hours of reading. By invitation only for the extra motivated young summer readers. Enjoy games, activities and free books. The Children’s Room will close that day at 1 p.m. to the public and reopen at 2 p.m. for the invitation-only party-goers.
