DERRY — A Derry fire dispatcher was named the state’s best.
Denise Unkles was named the 2013 NH Emergency Dispatchers Association’s Telecommunicator of the Year.
She is a seven-year veteran of the fire department. Unkles was nominated by fire Chief George Klauber and Director of Communications/IT Jon Goldman.
She was nominated for her actions in processing a tragic multiple alarm fire in 2012, officials said. She used her skills and training to successfully prevent further injury to the family and bystanders during the incident.
“This award is presented to an individual for exceptional professionalism in the field of public safety emergency communications and acknowledges the special contributions of a person whose daily performance of their duties is an inspiration and example to others,” the award letter said.
Unkles received her award during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week at the NH Emergency Dispatchers Associaton’s annual meeting last month.
