---- — Rip-roaring ride
It's not unusual to see avid motorcyclists zooming through Derry. It also may not be that unusual to see a rider dressed in a tiger suit as Halloween nears.
A colorful, furry cyclist traveled down Crystal Avenue one day last week doing his best Tony the Tiger impression.
Not to be outdone by a tiger impersonator on a motorcycle, two perky poodles enjoyed a ride on Broadway that same day, climbing on their owner's lap as he drove his truck.
Both pups got a chance to get some fresh air and poke their heads out the window on the unseasonably warm day.
Derry's downtown trick-or-treat event is set for Saturday, Oct. 20.
A costume parade kicks off the day at 11:30 a.m. at Veterans Hall, followed by trick-or-treat action on Broadway, Crystal Avenue and Hood Commons from noon to 3 p.m.
Look for the orange pumpkin posters in the windows of participating businesses. Derry's Halloween trick-or-treating time on Oct. 31 is from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Janet Conroy has made a name for herself in Derry, spending years volunteering and serving on boards and committees.
Recently named Derry's top Citizen of the Year by the Greater Derry/Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, Conroy is being honored at one of her favorite buildings in town, the Marion Gerrish Community Center, where the front sign now displays her name for all to see.
