DERRY — Parking will now be prohibited on a portion of South Avenue, due to a busy intersection nearby.
Town councilors approved a measure to prohibit parking on South Avenue in both directions within 125 feet from the intersection with Birch Street heading west.
The issue came up at a recent Highway Safety Committee when a resident voiced concerns about that location and its often snarled traffic flow, according to Public Works Director Michael Fowler.
“There’s a lot of congestion,” Fowler said. “That intersection is very busy.”
He said the situation gets worse when trucks travel down South Avenue off Birch Street. With cars parked along the road, space is tight as South Avenue is quite narrow.
There will be minimal cost to the town to install “no parking” signs, Fowler said.
