Seniors to enjoy free film Jan. 27

The Marion Gerrish Community Center is offering free films to seniors on the last Friday of every month at the center, 39 West Broadway.

Featured on Jan. 27 is the film, "Night at the Museum" at 12:30 p.m.

Seniors are asked to arrive by 12:15 p.m. to get a good seat. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

Library hosts Mt. Washington expert

Derry Public Library hosts weather observer/author,and eductor Eric Pinder for a special program, "Mount Washington: The World's Worst Weather."

The program is scheduled for Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at the library. Pinder currently teaches at Chester College of New England and is the author of several books.

Parks and Recreation plans trip

Derry Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a trip to the Newport (R.I.) Playhouse on April 23.

The trip includes a buffet lunch, a murder mystery show and cabaret.

The buffet lunch includes a wide selection of food, including fruit salad, potato salad, pasta, roasted chicken, glazed ham and much more.

After lunch, the murder mystery begins with audience participation, followed by the cabaret performance.

Registration is underway . The cost for Derry residents is $43, $53 for nonresidents. That includes a coach bus ride to and from Newport, entertainment and buffet.

Pick-ups are scheduled for senior housing complexes at 8 a.m. and Hood Commons at 8:30 a.m.

Adult Pilates classes offered

Adult Pilates classes are offered this winter on Monday mornings beginning in January. This six-class session is held Mondays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Jan. 30 through March 12, with no class on Feb. 27.

Classes are held at the Alexander Carr Lodge on Pierce Avenue. The fee for the class is $40 per session for both Derry and non-Derry residents. Pilates improves core strength, balance and overall fitness through a series of mat exercises. This class is designed to meet all levels of fitness.
