SPECTATOR

Hair force

All the hair from Londonderry High School's Pantene Beautiful Lengths event has been "measured and re-bagged," according to coordinator and English teacher Steve Juster.

"I am honored to say that LHS will be sending off the beautiful lengths of 283 donors, creating 47 real-hair wigs, and many, many tears and smiles," Juster said. "Know that each of you are a part of every one of those smiles, with your constant support of this effort."

Re-useful display

Derry's Go Green Committee wants to teach residents more about the importance of recycling. The group has a display on recycling at Derry Public Library.

"It's a good display," Conservation Commission Chairman Margie Ives said. "Very helpful.

Recycling rage?

Londonderry police recently received a call about an upset squirrel near the recyclables at the transfer station.

The poor creature apparently was hurt, not trying to discourage recycling.

"The caller is reporting an injured squirrel near the recyclables that seemed to lunge at people," the log reported.

Results? No action required, according to the log.

An ice breaker

It was still a frosty time recently as Frost Festival fans enjoyed a demonstration by the talented Ice Breakers team, taking huge chunks of ice and carving them into statuesque shapes.

Those sculptures remained on display at the former Depot Steakhouse a few days later, but some icy parts were beginning to melt.

Quick fix

Conservation Commission members heard details on a site review development plan at the corner of Holmes Court and Hillside Avenue at its meeting Feb. 13.

The information was given, and approved, in only minutes. Members said the plan was organized and easy to approve.

"This has to be one of the fastest ones," Commission Chairman Margie Ives said.

And the school wins

Londonderry's School District Moderator John Michels pointed out last week at the deliberative session that more people came to this meeting than the number attending the town's deliberative session earlier in the week.

"There were 133 at town meeting and 278 registered voters are here tonight," he said.

Just chillin'

A Subaru Outback in the shop sported the New Hampshire vanity license plate "RELXINN."

Maybe the car was, but the owner would likely have preferred to have his wheels cooling in the driveway, not on a lift.
