DERRY —The sun was shining on Derryfest Saturday.
A brief rain ended just in time for the day to begin in MacGregor Park. Organizers said this might have been one of the best Derryfest days ever.
“It was a beautiful day and one of the largest crowds I’ve seen came out to enjoy the fair,” committee member Michael Gendron said.
The park was filled with residents and visitors, all celebrating Derry.
Organizations and businesses offered information and special activities. The stage featured a variety of entertainment, including the winners of the Derry’s Got Talent show, balloon magicians, wild animals and baton twirlers.
The skies cleared just in time for all vendors to be in place and ready to go.
“The weather is excellent and it’s a perfect day,” said Jamie Ferdinando Brisson as she arranged her baked goods at Derryfest.
Entertainment included balloon artist Royal Sorrel, who was the hit of the day, Gendron said.
“He blew up a huge balloon and actually got inside it,” he said. “The crowd laughed uproariously when he poked his head out of the balloon.”
Derry’s Got Talent winners also took the stage. Mariah Larocque was the winner, followed by Jessica Manseau in second place winner and Cassandra Wright in third.
It’s not too early to start thinking about next year’s Derryfest or Derry’s Got Talent event, Gendron said. Anyone hoping to get involved in next year’s planning can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
