EAST DERRY — One of the area's most historic churches earned a place on the state's "Seven to Save" list for 2009.
First Parish Church in East Derry earned the designation on Wednesday night. The list was announced at a meeting of the New Hampshire Preservational Alliance held at First Parish.
The church was built in 1769 and was part of the original settlement in this area. The church serves an active congregation, but faces $1 million in repair costs for critical structural improvements.
The naming of the "Seven to Save" list included a tour Wednesday of the East Derry historic district near First Parish and surrounding areas.
The list recognizes endangered historic properties in need of attention and resources and highlights the challenges to historic landmarks, villages, main streets and rural communities that face New Hampshire.
Joining First Parish on this year's list is a 70-meter ski jump at Gunstock Ski Area, the United Methodist Church in Keene, a mill building in East Alstead, the iron furnace in Franconia, the New England Center in Durham, and Brewster Memorial Hall.
East Derry's Upper Village Hall was named to the state's 2007 "Seven to Save" list.
