HOMETOWN HEROES

Army Pvt. Charles Carroll has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Charles Carroll of Derry, and Violet Elwell of Salisbury, Mass.

Air Force Reserve Airman Allyson Bergendahl graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Bergendahl, a 2006 graduate of Londonderry High School, earned distinction as an honor graduate. She is the daughter of Robert and Lynn Bergendahl of Londonderry.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Gillen Stuart graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Stuart, a 2010 graduate of Londonderry High School, is the son of Cathleen Stuart of Londonderry.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jaclyn Edmiston, daughter of Anthony and Kathy Edmiston of Londonderry, along with 5,500 sailors and Marines assigned to the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group (CSG), recently arrived in Norfolk, Va., following a seven-and-a-half-month deployment supporting operations in the Mediterranean and the Arabian Seas.
