Local residents to march in Macy's parade

Pinkerton graduates featured in Macy's parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade this year features some faces from the local area.

The University of Massachusetts Marching Band will participate in the parade Nov. 28 in New York City. The band includes several students from the area, including Pinkerton Academy graduates Emma Blasczak, Derry; Theresa Illich, Hampstead; Jackie Peaslee, Derry; and Austin Suszek, Derry.

Peaslee is also a member of the Derry-based Red Star Twirlers and will lead the UMass Minuteman Majorette team in the parade. She has twirled with the Red Stars since she was 9.

After taking part in the parade, Peaslee will return to Derry to help lead the Red Stars in the Derry Holiday Parade Nov. 30.

The Red Stars performed in the Macy’s parade in 1993.

This is the UMass band’s first appearance at the annual parade, with nearly 400 members representing 28 states and three countries.

The band is scheduled to appear on the televised parade at approximately 11:24 a.m. as they cross in front of the famed Macy’s department store.
