Firefighters collect toys

The Professional Firefighters of Derry 4392 are hosting the Toys for Tots drive through Dec. 11.

Bring new, unwrapped toys to the fire station at 131 East Broadway.

Calling all teen contestants Nov. 29

The 10th annual Miss New Hampshire Outstanding Teen competition is set for February 2014 and the deadline to enter is fast approaching.

Contest hopefuls must apply by Nov. 29 by visiting missnh.org/outstanding-teen. The program is for girls ages 13 to 17 and is the little sister program of the Miss America organization. The competition is intended to encourage and reward talent, communication skills, community service and academic achievement.

Twirling in the holidays

The Red Star Twirlers are ready for the holidays and will be twirling this season for a good cause. The local baton group will present its annual holiday show, “Bells for Christmas Present,” on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Derry Opera House on West Broadway.

The show is for all ages; tickets are $5. Tickets are on sale at Veterans Hall, 31 West Broadway on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; at Halligan Tavern; or 30 minutes before showtime on Dec. 14.
