Men invited to free health-screening event

DERRY — "Real Men Wear Gowns" will be held on Tuesday, March 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Castleton in Windham.

A panel of five speakers will each discuss risk factors and health challenges specific to men. Topics to be presented include heart health, prostate issues, testosterone deficiency, exercise and the mind/body connection.

Presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session where men can address questions about their own health concerns to the physician panel. Free screenings will be available for vascular, cholesterol, sleep issues, anxiety/depression, blood pressure, target heart rate, nutrition, exercise and more.

Parkland will also be raffling off a 32-inch flat screen TV, a pair of Celtics tickets, and free one-hour massages for those who pre-register. Food, cash bar, giveaways, health information and screenings are all included in this free "men-only" event.

As more and more local families are suddenly forced to get by with less income, screenings and wellness visits have become the latest item cut from the household budget. Parkland is offering this second in a series of free screenings in order to encourage the community to take time to pay attention to preventative wellness.

A similar free "women-only" event, "Chick Chat and Chocolates," will take place on Tuesday, April 13 from 6 and 9 p.m., also at Castleton.

Pre-register online at www.menshealth.parklandmedicalcenter.com or call Parkland's Consult-a-Nurse line at 877- 642-2362.
