Pageant program expands to preteens, teens


DERRY — A new program will give younger women a chance find out more about competing in scholarship pageants.

The Miss Greater Derry program announces the addition of its Miss Greater Derry Outstanding Teen and Preteen Scholarship programs.

The program gives younger girls a chance to win scholarships, develop poise, confidence, show stage presence, enhance interview skills and improve speaking ability.

The first competition takes place April 18 at the Adams Memorial Opera House. Reigning Miss Greater Derry Krystal Lee Muccioli will crown the winners.

The Miss Greater Derry's Outstanding Teen/Preteen program competitions are open to New Hampshire youths who are natural, talented and want to earn a scholarship to be used toward their educational goals.

The Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Program is an affiliate of the national nonprofit Miss New Hampshire/Miss America Scholarship organizations. The Miss America organization, through its state and local competitions, is the largest scholarship provider for women in the world, awarding more than$45 million annually in scholarships.

The winner of Miss Greater Derry's Outstanding Preteen receives an official crown, sash and trophy, and a $150 scholarship. Miss Greater Derry's Outstanding Teen moves on to compete for the title of Miss New Hampshire's Outstanding Teen in January 2011.
