DERRY — A language arts teacher at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School was honored by the Derry Education Association for being someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to educating children.
On March 10, Hood seventh-grade teacher Jayne DiPirro was named teacher of the month by the DEA. She was honored at a surprise ceremony at the school.
Co-workers at Hood gathered in the school library to honor DiPirro, who has been part of the Hood team for eight years.
"It's an honor," she said. "But there are so many people who are deserving."
The DEA receives teacher-of-the-month nominations from district staff and rewards a teacher each month with the honor.
Every month, a different Derry school celebrates its staff in a surprise ceremony.
