New practitioner joins Derry chiropractic practice

By Suzanne Laurent

DERRY — Dr. Deborah MacDonald has joined Beckley Family Chiropractic practice located on Birch Street.

MacDonald specializes in treating pediatric and maternity patients. Prior to joining Dr. Matt Beckley in Derry, MacDonald had practiced at Chiropractic First in Salem since 2003.

"We can treat babies over 14 days of age," MacDonald said. "Some things helped by chiropractic medicine are colic and chronic ear infections. The treatments help the body recover."

She attended New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, N.Y., where she discovered a passion for pediatric and maternity care. After graduation in 2002 she continued pursuing her professional goals through the Cleveland College of Chiropractic.

She holds a pediatric certificate of proficiency and is certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. This technique enables chiropractors to establish balance in a pregnant woman's pelvis, which can make it easier for a breech baby to turn naturally.

"Woman usually experience hip pain during the last trimester of their first pregnancy," MacDonald said. "But, in subsequent pregnancies, it can occur earlier. Regular treatments can lead to a faster labor and delivery time."

MacDonald said she likes to see women soon after delivery to balance the pelvis and spine.

Beckley Family Chiropractic opened in 2004. Beckley also is a 2002 graduate of New York Chiropractic College, where he met MacDonald. The couple live in Derry and are planning an April wedding.

"By having Deb on board, we can truly offer services to all ages," Beckley said.

"And we're truly a family practice," MacDonald added.
